Amazing new events provide something for everyone at the 2014 Margaret River Gourmet Escape
Margaret River Gourmet Escape, presented by Siemens home appliances, has pulled out all stops to create a massive weekend for lovers of food, wine, music and fun, announcing some huge new events and new talent for the three-day festival from 21 to 23 November 2014.
Highlights include the legendary Neil Finn performing a one-off vineyard concert with friends Gurrumul and Megan Washington; Matt Preston playing quizmaster to find the world’s most knowledgable foodie at the Gourmet Food Trivia Night with special guest appearances by Heston Blumenthal and Rick Stein; famous foraging chefs Matt Stone and Sweden’s Daniel Berlin teaming up for a Farm, Forage, Graze dinner; internationally-renowned Aboriginal chef Mark Olive creating a magical cultural and culinary experience; and the chance to be literally kept in suspense for dinner under the stars at Lake Cave.
New faces joining the huge line up of talent include dapper Australian celebrity food journalist and critic Matt Preston, owner/chef of Amass Matt Orlando previously of The Fat Duck, Per Se and Noma, acclaimed UK food critic A.A.Gill, Perth’s favourite foodie Anna Gare, kids TV presenter and author Alice Zaslavsky, 2012 Masterchef runner up and pastry chef Julia Taylor, the multitalented Rebecca Sullivan from Dirty Girl Kitchen and The Granny Skills Movement, and expert wine commentator Nick Stock.
Tickets for the new events will be available from 11am AWST on Tuesday 9 September and are likely to sell out, so early purchase is advised.
The Margaret River Gourmet Escape program is packed with events that will take over the region. At the centre of all the action is the buzzing Gourmet Village. Situated in the stunning grounds of Leeuwin Estate winery, this is where visitors can sample all the Margaret River wine region has to offer and it’s the place where all the culinary stars come together for cooking demonstrations, wine tastings, masterclasses, Q&As, panel discussions and book signings. Tickets start from $38*.
Gourmet Village program details have now been finalised and include the new Signature Sessions – intimate cooking demonstrations with renowned chefs including Rick Stein, Peter Gilmore and George Calombaris and the Devil’s Lair Table of Eight where guests get the best seats in the house and sit on stage while world-acclaimed chefs including Heston Blumenthal, Massimo Bottura and Davide Scabin are live in the Siemens Chef’s Theatre.
There are plenty of opportunities to meet the chefs including Heston and Massimo who will sign their latest cookbooks through a pre-purchase offer. Massimo’s Never Trust a Skinny Italian Chef (Phaidon) has recently been released.
