Slate Cafe

Slate Cafe- Breakfast Perth

Slate Cafe is the Swan Valley’s newest addition and it’s offering something truly different to anywhere else in Perth. They have a playground for the kids AND the fur kids. At the back of the cafe is a massive grassed area with both a nature play area and indoor playroom for the kiddies. There is a fenced off area for the dogs to run free, although many owners enjoy having their pooches sit next to their table. There is plenty…

Lot Six Zero

Lot Six Zero - Breakfast Perth

Me: “Hey Sarah, want to go for breakfast on Saturday?” Sarah: “Yeah ok, but I want pancakes.” Me: “…” Right. So as most of you know my sister has coeliacs disease and her craving request gave me the fear.  Where the f*** was I going to find good gluten free pancakes that didn’t resemble a dish sponge. I asked the people who know best – you guys! I was told Lot Six Zero had the best gluten free pancakes in Perth.…

Mason & Bird

Mason & Bird

The cafe scene in the hills has exploded in the last few months. There is something about the area that is attracting some serious hospo talent. This includes chef Brad Johnston (ex head chef Print Hall Bar), his partner Jaclyn Noel and friend Matt Nguyen (both ex managers of Rockpool) who opened Mason & Bird. A tree change is what they were after, and they found it in the hills community of Kalamunda. The cafe is located at the Zig Zag cultural…

Frisch & Barc

Frisch & Barc - Breakfast Perth

Frisch & Barc. Weird name right? Well it has a nice meaning and it’s all about community. Karl Ritter von Frisch discovered that bees aren’t just mindless drones, they create communities. The barc is the wild hive they build. Siblings John and Kim Wong want their cafe to be a place of community, where customers return to and  always feel welcome – just like the bees to their barc. There is definitely that kind of vibe about the place with smiling,…

Barque

Barque - Breakfast Perth

Recently I was invited to try the breakfast at Barque in East Freo. This little pocket around George Street is bursting with some great eateries! Barque is located down the end of the street and has a great set up. There is a huge outside dining area with distressed timber furniture and loads of cushions for comfort. Plenty of shade means dining outside in summer won’t equal third degree burns. Inside is a little smaller, but the heavy timber theme continues with comfy…

Young George

Young George

George Street in East Freo is this little foodie hub tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the main city of Fremantle. There’s a handful of cafes and restaurants that are all worth visiting, but on this occasion I was there to dine at Young George. Set in a typical heritage style building, this restaurant has a warm vibe and friendly staff to match. The open kitchen is great for watching the magic happen or to salivate from food…

Stimulatte

Stimulatte

It was one of those weekends where most people would see the weather and decide to stay in for vegemite on toast. Not me… I dragged Andy and George out in the storm for the purpose of yet another breakfast review. I think it paid off nicely with our visit to a little Subiaco cafe called Stimulatte. There’s only a few tables inside, including a breakfast bar facing Hay street. There are also plenty of tables outside that are undercover.…

Up Town

Up Town - Breakfast Perth

In a place where the breakfast trade reigns supreme, Up Town is a fresh, new addition to Cottesloe’s Napoleon Street. Replacing what was Perth’s very first Dome, brothers Phillip and Anthony Arnold have gone with a simple theme for their cafe. Only a few photos of Brooklyn street dancers decorate the walls and there’s a classic grey and white colour palette in the fit out. The coffee here is exceptional. The roast is from Code Black in Melbourne; a place Phillip previously…

Good Things

Good Things - Coffee - Breakfast Perth

It’s all good at Good Things. This Mosman Park cafe has proven to be a popular addition to a row of suburban shops. Locals walk down with their pooches to take a seat in the alfresco area, parents in their active wear have brekky with the kids and groups of friends gossip over coffee and their smart phones. The interior is minimalistic. A few plants decorate the tables and artwork reading “it’s all good” is painted on the wall. The…
