Millpoint Caffe Bookshop

Millpoint Caffe - Breakfast Perth

I’ve reviewed a cafe in a travel agency but what about a cafe in a bookshop? Or is it a bookshop in a cafe? Either way, MillPoint Caffe Bookshop is inspired. I love browsing books and taking note of what I will read next or what I could give as a gift to a friend. With the increase of people reading e-books, shops like this are sadly becoming few and far between. What a great way to get people in – combining…

Layup

Layup Cafe - Breakfast Perth

One my favourite cafes, The Dizzy Witch, closed down last year. My friend Rachael also loved it there and we wondered what would replace it. Thankfully we have not been disappointed with new kid at the courts – Layup. The re-dec looks great… lots of natural light with wood vs black decor and furniture giving the perfect contrast. Coffee is by award winning Blacklist Coffee Roasters and as you can imagine, it makes a very decent cuppa. I really love…

Hopscotch Bar

Hopscotch Bar - Breakfast Perth

When I was pregnant people would ask me “what have you been craving?” and my answer was always “dirty martinis”. This response was usually met with nervous laugher.. “is she joking? Has she been drinking mother’s ruin whilst pregnant?” Of course I hadn’t, but my next dirty martini consumed my thoughts and it was only made worse when my sister told me about the best martini she had ever had from a small bar in South Perth called Hopscotch. She promised…

The Shorehouse

The Shorehouse - Breakfast Perth

Mentioning “Swanbourne Beach” in conversation will usually bring about smirks and giggles from Perthians who associate this beach with those who like to get a true all over body tan. But as I once discovered, “that part” of the beach is a bit of a walk from the view you’ll get at Perth’s hottest summer venue –  The Shorehouse. With white washed wooden furniture, yellow striped umbrellas and colour coordinated scatter cushions – it’s the Hamptons right there on Swanbourne beach.…

Hermosa Cantina

Hermosa Cantina - Breakfast Perth

If you haven’t heard of hugely popular North Beach cafe – Tropico, then I am sorry to say that you must have been living under a rock! Not content with one successful cafe, the owners decided to open Hermosa Cantina – a Spanish influenced restaurant in the well heeled suburb of Wembley. Having the same owners is where the similarities end. Tropico is fresh and bright with a menu to match, where as Hermosa is  handsome and classy with a menu that…

Getting Under the Skin of the Peel Region

2 December, 2015
Mandurah

Recently I was invited down to the Peel Region by The City of Mandurah and Visit Peel to experience what the area has to offer as a food and wine destination. As the Official Digital Media Influencer for the region in the Buy West Eat Best WA Signature Dish competition (for which they won the People’s Choice award!), I was keen to get to know the region that had so much to offer AND was only about an hour away…

tbsp.

tbsp - Breakfast Perth

For a long time I have been saying to friends “wouldn’t it be great some cafes opened up on King William Street?” Bayswater has been patiently waiting in the wings whilst Maylands has been stealing the show. With a few cafes now open, it’s Baysie’s turn to shine and new comer tbsp. currently in the spotlight. The interior here has a bit of a Scandinavian feel to it. The chairs are comfy and there isn’t a clapped out milk crate seat in…

Get Ya Fix

Get Ya Fix - Breakfast Perth

A bike shop selling coffee and jaffles? Say what?! Whilst their main business is selling some pretty cool cycling machines, Get Ya Fix is also sorting out your caffeine fix at their bike shop-come-cafe with some pretty darn good coffee and delicious foodie treats. With only a small lounge and couple of comfy chairs, there’s plenty of opportunity to browse the shop or even take away and set up camp in the near by Hyde Park. If you choose to take…

Breakfast in Mandurah

Breakfast in Mandurah Breakfast Perth

Recently I was invited by the City of Mandurah and Visit Peel to experience the beautiful Peel Region. I will be writing a whole post on my visit to the region and what a great food and wine destination it is… But first BREAKFAST! The two cafes they had planned for us for breakfast were Cafe Coast and The Tea & Coffee Merchant. Both on the waters edge, I soon realised that this is pretty much the norm in the area…

Oxford Yard

Oxford Yard - Breakfast Perth

Leederville’s cafe scene probably attracts just as many cyclists as some of the coastal cafes. It’s easy to see why – the cafes have outdoor tables with lots of space to park bikes and keep and eye on them. Oxford Yard is one such Leedy cafe that is popular with the cyclists as well as the Lorna Jane wearing yummy mummies of Perth. I met up with friends Rachael and Marie on this morning and seeing everyone in their cycling lycra…
