Railway Parade in West Leedy is fast becoming the go to place for breakfast in Perth. Week days see places like Aliment filled with workers getting their morning coffee or having a meeting over breakfast. Weekends attract the punters who know which meal is best enjoyed out with friends.
The coffee is by Genovese. The first time I tried this was at sister cafe Ingredient Tree. I was impressed then and I was impressed now. It had a strong robust flavour and creamy finish.
The all day menu changes regularly and if you keep an eye Aliment’s instagram, you will be privy some mouth watering specials like fried chicken with papaya salad – oh yes oh yes! The menu leans towards the heavier style of breakfast but there are couple of lighter options such as muesli and eggs on toast.
Eggs benedict is no longer the predictable dish it once was. Chefs are coming up with all sorts of wonderful ways to make hollandaise sauce shine. Andy’s pulled pork and hash brown benedict ($20) was a straight up win. Soft poached eggs sat pretty atop a mountain of tender pulled pork. The hollandaise was on the lighter side but had all the hallmarks of a great sauce – a balance of tang and butteriness. Andy declared the hash brown to be the he has ever eaten! A decent sized hash that was very crispy on the outside and as soft as clouds on the inside. The seasoning? On point. A tangle of peppery rocket gave the dish a little fresh lift.
A dish that has been popular since it was added to the menu is the buttermilk fried chicken crumpets ($21). Of course I had to try it. A tower of three housemade crumpets were topped with sweet, sticky maple bacon. The star – chunks of tender buttermilk fried chicken. I could really taste that tang that buttermilk is known for. A fried egg with its runny yolk lay casually across the bacon, basking in lively red paprika. It’s hard to describe the flavour of dill… it’s just “dill”. It was an interesting addition that worked so well. This is a hefty dish that I couldn’t finish. Definitely worth the money.
Aliment is a great choice for those that have a big hunger for breakfast. You really get your money’s worth with the interesting dishes on offer here.
So skip the hustle and bustle of Oxford street and head west. Aliment is waiting to nourish your morning hunger pangs.
