It’s all good at Good Things. This Mosman Park cafe has proven to be a popular addition to a row of suburban shops. Locals walk down with their pooches to take a seat in the alfresco area, parents in their active wear have brekky with the kids and groups of friends gossip over coffee and their smart phones.
The interior is minimalistic. A few plants decorate the tables and artwork reading “it’s all good” is painted on the wall. The hands spelling out the letters are drawn in a style that reminded me of the way the BFG was drawn in Roald Dahl’s book.
As the cafe logo says – good things come to those who drink coffee. Here you’ll get a top brew with Mircrology Coffee.
The brunch style menu strikes a good balance between sweet and savoury. It’s an interesting menu where there’d be something for everyone. Dishes range from something simple like muesli ($14) to smoked salmon on Mr Drummond’s crumpets served with rocket, capers, dill-creme fraiche, asparagus, poached egg ($22).
For $6 the kids can choose from a hotcake or egg.
The balsamic mushrooms ($19) came served with polenta cake, tempura enoki, goats cheese, spinach and a poached egg. This dish had it all. Sweetness from the balsamic, a tarty bite from the goats cheese, crispiness from the tempura and creaminess from the polenta cake. The runny yolk from the poached egg was great for mixing through the mushies.
Here’s a rule to keep in your back pocket – don’t judge the size of a dish by an Instagram photo. The southern fried chicken ($18) Andy ordered isn’t for the faint hearted or should I say small stomached.
Stacked on top of a waffle were two large crispy fillets of golden fried chicken. The waffle was light and fluffy with crispy edges. Elvis would have sung, “Love me Tender” to this chicken. It was all meat, no bones.
Instead of traditional maple syrup, it came served with a chilli butterscotch sauce. This sweet sauce with a lively punch MADE the dish. If you think you need it, for an extra $5 you can add maple bacon.
