What a beautiful day for a Sunday breakfast on the South Perth foreshore! Mono Lisa and I decided during the week to book at In Contro for breakfast after she told me about the amazing dinner she had there and I have to agree, this place is pretty amazing. The tranquil view of the river and the elegant decor really make for a divine breakfast.

Mono Lisa had already arrived and ordered a long macchiato and as soon as I sat down the very attentive and friendly waitress took my coffee order. It didn’t take long for my cappuccino to come out and both Mono Lisa and I commented on how beautiful the coffee was. A nice strong coffee flavour that was smooth and creamy with no hint of bitterness. A very drinkable coffee!

We looked over the menu and I already was torn between the Winter Breakfast Tart – Mondo Bacon, spinach, gruyere and Chefs Relish and the Grilled Sandwich – Mondo speck, fried haloumi, wild mushrooms and rosemary. Prices ranged from $9 for a banana and yogurt smoothie up to $22 for the Chef’s Breakfast – Poached eggs, Mondo bacon, slow roasted tomatoes with pesto and jazzed up Heinz baked beans. I’d really like to know what they mean by “jazzed up Heinz baked beans”! There were so many delicious choices that have a hint of difference from the usual breakfast meals as well as a good offering of extras that you could add to the meals like stewed fruit, potatoes with rosemary salt and goats feta.

I ended up deciding on the Winter Breakfast tart and Mono Lisa chose poached eggs with a side of roasted Swiss brown mushrooms with garlic thyme butter. We also ordered another coffee each, which is rare for me! I wonder if I will be able to sleep tonight? I’m usually a one coffee wonder.

The meals came out quite fast which was impressive considering it was Sunday breakfast. Both Mono Lisa and I said “wow” when the plates were in front of us. Mono Lisa cut into her poached eggs and commented that they were cooked perfectly. The mushrooms looked amazing and she said they tasted so as well! She said the thyme with the garlic butter was delicious. Both our meals came with grilled ciabatta bread drizzled with extra virgin olive oil. The EVO was so tasty and was a nice touch to add to the bread.

My meal was amazing. I spread a bit of the relish on the ciabatta and it took me back to my childhood of when mum would put Rosella fruit chutney on roast lamb sandwiches. That is not a bad comment because I LOVE Rosella fruit chutney! The tart was very tasty. Not too much bacon to overpower the general flavour. I have never had gruyere cheese before and it was really nice with the spinach and egg.

In Contro now makes my top 3! Mono Lisa commented that it was now her new favourite restaurant. The service was excellent and the food was faultless. I would definitely recommend this place for a special breakfast with friends or family. I’d like to go back again and have a champagne breakfast with my group of favourite girls.

    >Very timely review for me! I went here for their truffle degustation a couple of weeks ago and thought it would be a great location for breakfast. So glad to read this glowing review! Nice and close to the ferry stop too, so can add it some lazy city shopping on the way home after :)
