Jack and Jill

Jack & Jill

I’ve heard you loud and clear Perth… apparently I do not review enough local nosheries serving good food at a reasonable price. But what is a reasonable price? What I consider reasonable might not be the same as the next person. I consider paying $20 for a breakfast in Perth made of local produce very reasonable…. but not everyone agrees. Too often, people associate price with quality but I urge you all to pay attention to where the ingredients are…

Bluewaters Cafe

Blue Waters

It’s a lot of pressure picking a breakfast place for a catch up with friends when you do this job. You want to impress them with your choice; show them that you know what’s good in Perth for the morning meal. I picked Bluewaters Cafe for a morning out with hubby and friend Belinda after looking at their website and seeing pictures of tables with white table cloths and a plethora of awards and accolades. They were a finalist in 2013…

Bib and Tucker

Bib&Tucker

Again and again I am left disappointed with restaurants on the beach. I end up leaving thinking “well all I really paid for was the view because the food was rubbish”. What was I going to get at one of Freo’s most talked about restaurants named after a couple of scallywag bushrangers? I had promised my mate Ben that we would go to Bib and Tucker together and we had the perfect excuse for a group brekky  – to meet his…

The Attic

The Attic 1

There are parts of Fremantle that are frozen in time and I’m not talking about from when the convicts were hanging out on High Street. Walking down the cappuccino strip is the same now as it was 20 years ago. It makes me roll my eyes and think “really? How are these places full?”. Some are charging in the high $20’s for food that your local shopping centre cafe could do a better job of. People should be heading to…

Atrium Buffet

Atrium

When you think of the words “breakfast buffet” what comes to mind? For me it’s dry eggs, rubbery bacon, lining up to toast stale bread, pancakes you can throw as frisbees and fruit that has that hint of fermentation. I travel a lot for work and I stay at a range of hotels and mine site camps. Don’t believe the rumours about FIFO workers getting to eat like kings on sites… some camps provide less to workers than what prisoners…

Gooseberries Cafe

Gooseberries Cafe

I get the feeling that Gooseberries Cafe is a little local secret. Families walk down with their kids in tow on bikes with training wheels and grans and granddads sit and enjoy a coffee at a sunlit table whilst reading the paper. It’s wholesome and sweet yet there is a funky edge. Maybe it’s the signage made from recycled oil drums or the abstract art on the walls – but this place definitely has a touch of style. From the…

The Roasting Warehouse

The Roasting Warehouse

A guest review from the "Bitchez Who Brunch"! For us inner city slickers, a trip to Fremantle seems so far that it might require a packed lunch. Call us lazy, but with so many of our favourite brunch places within walking distance, we often feel like it might not be worth the mini road trip. However, when we were asked to write a guest blog for the Breakfast Confidential, we decided to fuel up the car, load our iPod…

Typika

Typika Artisan Roasters have been a huge hit since they opened their doors earlier this year; with tales of queues out the door, I thought I’d bide my time until the popularity had somewhat abated. Just to be sure we wouldn’t have to queue (I hate it.. a lot), Sarah and I headed there at 8.30am. It was already pretty full when we arrived and by the time we left there was that queue I had heard so much about.…

Gusto Food

I have a list of all the places I need to visit for breakfast but with all the new openings the list gets bigger and these new places get pushed to the top of the list. Gusto Food has sat patiently on my list and finally I got the chance to check it out with the backing of plenty of my readers who all told me I would love it with some saying “it’s one of my favourites”. So, what…

Rose & Crown

After a big 40th birthday party (Andy’s… NOT mine) we needed a big hang over curing breakfast. Not wanting to stray too far out of the neighbourhood we headed to the Rose and Crown in Guildford. This colonial style hotel/pub has been in existence since 1841  and has that “convicts built this” look about it. They even say that convicts haunt the halls of this heritage listed site! With a “Posh Convict Restaurant” section you can just imagine the comments from my English…
