Sage

Sage Cafe - Breakfast Perth

Vic Park has a new addition and it’s a pearler. Sage Cafe, located behind the old post office, is already wow’ing customers with its breakfast offering and slick interior design. Polished concrete and wood finishing blended with brass and rose gold make for an inviting space. The chestnut leather bucket chairs are comfy. I had almost forgotten what it is like to sit on nice chairs at breakfast with so many cafes now having metal chairs!  Coffee is supplied by Freo’s Port…

Lot Six Zero - Breakfast Perth

Me: “Hey Sarah, want to go for breakfast on Saturday?” Sarah: “Yeah ok, but I want pancakes.” Me: “…” Right. So as most of you know my sister has coeliacs disease and her craving request gave me the fear.  Where the f*** was I going to find good gluten free pancakes that didn’t resemble a dish sponge. I asked the people who know best – you guys! I was told Lot Six Zero had the best gluten free pancakes in Perth.…

Holly Raye’s

Holly Rayes - Breakfast Perth

Just like Maylands, Bassendean is going through a bit of a renaissance. There’s apartments being built, a small bar set to open any day now and fantastic cafes popping up, with the newest being a little beauty called Holly Raye’s. They opened last week to a loud applause of Instagram and Facebook love. Andy and I visited on Friday and I wasn’t the only person there with a camera. When you have food bloggers there that early, you know this…

The Little Shop of Plenty

The Little Shop of Plenty - Breakfast Perth

There are so many cafes serving fanciful breakfasts with things like slabs of bacon, fried chicken, waffles piled high with sweet adornments and don’t even get me started on the ridiculous milkshakes in mason jars trend. Whilst this stuff sure is Instagram worthy, where you’re going to get plenty of those emoticons with the love hearts for eyes as comments, it is nice to be able to go somewhere for the most important meal of the day and not leave feeling like you…

Finlay & Sons no 917

Finlay & Sons - Breakfast Perth

When was the last time you went to a cafe where every single staff member you encountered genuinely smiled at you? For me, it was last Friday when I visited Beaufort street’s newest addition – Finlay & Sons no 917. Besides the super friendly staff, it has all the hallmarks of a successful cafe – exposed brick, filament lights, a large communal table and instagram worthy bits and bobs on the table that make for the perfect styled food shots. But…

Sprolo

Sprolo

A cafe on busy Canning Highway can be anything but relaxed and enjoyable right? With upbeat jazz bouncing out of the speakers and the wooshes and banging of top quality coffee being made – Sprolo takes you away from the cars crawling by only metres from the door. The seating seems to be about saving space, with metal stools being the go. There are a couple of couches at the window if you are lucky enough to nab them, tables…

The Sparrows Nest

Sparrows Nest

There was a period of time in Perth when giving venues an avian name was hotter than pulled pork. There is Cheeky Sparrow, The Old Crow, The Aviary, Swallow Bar, the list goes on and then in swoops a little Vic Park cafe on the tail end of this trend with the name The Sparrows Nest. It reminds me somewhat of the Moon Cafe with it’s bric-a-brac furniture and event posters plastered all over the walls. And with Nirvana seductively…

The Shipping Lane

The Shipping Lane Outside

Remember when Leighton Beach used to be the next crappy car park up from Port Beach? It has looked a bit more flash than that for a while now but I still feel like it is a foreign place when I drive around the windy roads with manicured gardens and towering apartments one can only hope to ever afford. The benefit to this development is the opening of nosheries that take advantage of the view and serve more than hot…

Bib and Tucker

Bib&Tucker

Again and again I am left disappointed with restaurants on the beach. I end up leaving thinking “well all I really paid for was the view because the food was rubbish”. What was I going to get at one of Freo’s most talked about restaurants named after a couple of scallywag bushrangers? I had promised my mate Ben that we would go to Bib and Tucker together and we had the perfect excuse for a group brekky  – to meet his…

Esprezzo

Esprezzo

So here are Andy and I, sitting outside Noranda Palms shopping centre at 7.55am. We’re still in the car of course… not like the people who stand as close as they can to the automatic doors so they can be FIRST inside at 8am. We’re nothing like them, OK guys? Well, we weren’t there to do our shopping, we had come to have breakfast at Esprezzo cafe.  This wasn’t my first visit to this popular suburban haunt. I had dropped…
